The city of Bristol has excellent sports facilities, including many world-class spectator sports, such as rugby and cricket. There are also superb sports facilities in Bristol for participants, and these include a selection of golf courses, tennis and badminton courts, swimming pools, fitness centres and state-of-the-art gymnasiums. The local Bristol newspapers provide a sports section listing daily local Bristol sports events and there are plenty of spectator sports in Bristol.

The River Avon runs straight through the centre of Bristol and is a particularly scenic spot for walking and cycling in Bristol. There are also a number of pubs along the way, close to the riverside.

Cycling trails are available along the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, which follows the former Midland Railway for more than 20 km / 12 miles between Bristol and Bath.

Bath's racecourse in situated in Lansdown, 20 km / 13 miles from Bristol, on the outskirts of Bath, and this is actually the highest racecourse in the area, with spectacular views across the countryside.
