Several of these venues are especially notable, with the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery on Queens Road being located on the southerly outskirts of the university campus and just a short stroll from the Brandon Hill Nature Park.

Also located on Queens Road and within walking distance of the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, both the Royal West of England Academy (RWA Art Gallery) and the various exhibitions staged at the Victoria Rooms come highly recommended. The Watershed Media Centre may also be of interest and stands alongside a number of trendy harbourside bars and eateries.

Situated in the Clifton area of Bristol, the historic Royal West of England Academy features five magnificent art galleries, all of which are flooded with natural light. The Royal West of England Academy is situated 6 km / 4 miles from the city centre and was opened in 1858, as the city's first fine art gallery.

Over the years, the Royal West of England Academy has hosted many superb art exhibitions and there is a permanent display of fine art, including paintings, prints and sculptures. Other attractions at this grand art museum include a small gift shop, selling a variety of arts and crafts.

The Bristol Watershed Media Centre is located in the Harbourside area and is home to many different attractions, including two large art galleries displaying modern art, photographic exhibitions, films, digital media, events, presented in the cinemas and event suites at the Watershed Media Centre. There is also a highly-acclaimed, trendy bar / café at the Watershed Media Centre, serving sandwiches, bar snacks and well-presented meals, and a well-stocked gift shop. At night, the centre becomes one of the city's most lively and exciting nightspots.

The Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, in the Clifton area, is one of the city's most notable cultural venues and has recently become headline news, after hosting a huge exhibition of pieces by local semi-anonymous graffiti artist, Banksy. Housed in an Edwardian Baroque-style building, next to the Wills University building, the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery has a number of excellent exhibition spaces, displaying many fine examples of paintings, including masterpieces, traditional landscapes, more contemporary work and also some Egyptian and oriental works of art.

The museum is home to numerous displays, including sea dinosaurs, minerals, ancient fossils, Egyptian mummies and artefacts, aquariums and many natural history exhibits, such as stuffed animals. Other attractions at the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery include a large museum gift shop and an excellent café, which has a special menu for children.

The Victoria Rooms are situated in the Clifton area of the city and were completed in 1841, remaining one of the most impressive buildings and attractions here. Standing at the head of Queens Road, in the city centre, the Victoria Rooms has been home to many of the city's important events, including the official opening of the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. Now owned by the University of Bristol, the Victoria Rooms feature a 745-seat auditorium and art gallery space, and the building is only open during special events, such as concerts and art exhibitions. Other attractions include the stunning facade, and lunchtime concerts held every Wednesday - which are free of charge.
